ESA Social Club Salon 2008

East Street Arts
(ESA) in Leeds is inviting submissions for Social Club Salon 2008, an open submission selling exhibition at Patrick Studios. Above are two pieces from my work on re-tracing W.G Sebald steps in Manchester & Salford which I will be submitting.

The exhibition should be great, inspired by the french saloons of the 18th century with work on display floor to ceiling on every available space!

Keep you posted but check out ESA as they have some great events I'm off to a talk with artist Emma Bolland Thursday evening who works with alot of projections.

The Upper Space Gallery, Manchester

The exhibition at The Upper Space Gallery, Manchester opened three weeks ago and it was a really great opening night. Unfortunately in the weeks that have (flown by) I have been unable to get to the gallery and Manchester to work on the project. However this weekend I am feeling optimistic about experimenting with some projection ideas so watch this space!

Around Manchester

Saturday In Manchester

I was over in Manchester Saturday working around Victoria Station and Strangeways Prison. Compared to other visits I found this one of the least productive in my eyes anyway. I felt like I was constantly stopping and starting and struggling in vain to find any trace of where Sebald had been. Compared to the area around Salford and Castlefields this had greater pockets of space left undisturbed and in a state of ruin. The weather was a typical Manchester day with non stop rain so perhaps this added to my state of mind.

Victoria Station & Strangeways Prison

Today in Manchester I will be working around Victoria Station and Strangeways Prison which I think will perhaps take the work in another direction to that of last week.
